Lower Your Health Insurance Costs Online

Even though a large number of Americans feel very thankful for the ability to obtain affordable health insurance this does not change the fact that they do not enjoy paying for such coverage. This is especially true being that the economy is in such bad shape, and many times causing affordable health insurance to become obsolete. However, by following a few suggested tips a person can find ways to help decrease the price associated with paying health insurance premiums.

View a Plan from a Large Perspective

Anytime a person decides to obtain a health plan they should always look at the situation from a large perspective, always keeping in mind that lower premiums usually means the plan is accompanied with higher co-pays, and many times less features than plans with higher premiums. It is always important to determine that whatever policy is chosen that it does consist of features that will come in beneficial, not ones that will leave a person with large out of pocket expenses when medical attention needs to be sought.

One way to determine if a policy will meet the needs of the policyholder is to calculate how much money will be out for premiums and co-pays for expected medical expenses. In many cases a person will find that if they pay higher premiums, in the long run they will be out less money because the policy is not accompanied with such high deductibles and co-pays, therefore often times making higher premium policies the more affordable health insurance way to go.

Employee Insurance

A large number of employers offer affordable health insurance plans. When a person has the advantage to become part of one they always should. Since an employer sends a large number of employees to a single insurer, the insurer generally offers the individuals favorable rates, which enables the employees to obtain an affordable health insurance plan. This is especially true when comparing employer-sponsored insurance rates with individual health policy rates.

Make Sure the Plan is Deducted on a Pre-Tax Basis

Anytime that a person obtains a health plan through their employer they should always make sure the premiums are being withheld on a pre-tax basis. This means that their insurance premiums are being held as a deduction to their gross pay, and then taxes are withheld. Since the premiums are being withheld from gross pay the federal taxes being deducted are fewer, enabling a person to keep more of their income for their self instead of paying taxes on larger amounts of gross pay.

Flexible Spending Plans

It is also wise to enroll in an employer’s flexible spending plan if they have one. This enables a person to transfer a certain amount of their pre-tax income into an account that can be accessed to submit claims. This also lowers the amount of income taxes that must be withheld because the money transferred lowers a person’s gross income. Most employers will allow their employees to submit receipts for any non-covered medical expenses they are out and then be reimbursed from the money they have in their account to go towards claims.

Mail Order Pharmacies

Buying prescriptions from a mail order pharmacy is usually accompanied with lower prices; mostly because the pharmacy allows people to order 90 to 120 day supplies of ordered prescriptions for the exact same co-pay price as a 30 day supply. In some cases where a person is accustom to receiving prescriptions with a length of 30 days they should explain to their doctor that they need a prescription for at least 90 days; most doctors will accommodate this request because they understand the person is simply make sure they take advantage of their affordable health insurance.
